As the days grow longer now that June is here, we can look back on a busy couple of Spring months; 22 sea trout, quite a few brown trout and two Spring salmon. The river banks are in excellent shape all due to John’s hard work over the winter months.
The Tamar itself has been in need of the recent rain and looking at the river condition report that is updated daily by John, the river is rising. We have a prediction of an El Niño around the world this summer so all rain welcome to keep the levels up and the water cool for our fish.
The fishers have ranged from 18 years to their late 80s and have maintained their enthusiasm by keeping their flies in the water. The fish are being drawn to a wide combination of flies so far from small tubes, Waddingtons, Willie Gunns, silver stoats tails to a GHRE. What’s more, sea trout and a salmon have been caught on a size 14 blue and silver and claret and blue cascade despite Tamar fish being notorious for their dislike of blue flies!
