May: Lt. General Sir Edward Smyth Osbourne has caught Endsleigh’s first salmon this season. A 7 1/2lb salmon caught at Higher Bush on a 1″ willie gunn. Peter Ayton caught a 3lb sea trout caught at Lily pond on a blue teal No 8.
Nigel Smith caught two sea trout a 1lb caught at Carthamartha on a gold head green Nymph and a 1 1/2lb caught at Lower Black Rock caught on a stoats tail. Major Rawlings caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Joles on a green highlander.

May. Endsleigh have caught their first Salmon this season, a 10lb fish caught by Sir Frederick Hervey Bathurst at Leigh pool on a black/yellow Tosh. John Dennis caught a 3lb sea trout at Underhill on a 1/2″ posh tosh. Peter Ayton caught two sea trout to 1 1/2lb at Lowley run and gravel on a blue teal and silver single No 10. May 15th  Angus Woolhouse caught Endsleigh’s second salmon this season a 12lb fish caught at Underhill on a black/yellow 1/2″ conehead. Tony constable caught a 1lb sea trout at Joles on a 1″ cascade. Christine Ayton caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Joles. 26th May Duncan Martin caught a 10lb salmon at Beera grid on a stoats tail No 10.  Nigel Smith caught two sea trout to 1lb at waterfall and Hardstone on a yellow/silver Waddington, and a 2lb sea trout at Endsleigh ham on a black stoats tail. Melanie Healy caught a 8 1/2lb Salmon at Southcombe croy on a stoats tail. Fergus Bracher caught a 12lb Salmon at Lower Endsleigh Ham on a black/yellow No 10. Charlie Bracher caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Hardstone upper pool on a green highlaner. Stephen Illingworth caught two salmon a 6lb caught at Underhill, and a 7lb caught at Woodtown both caught on a 3/4″ red tube. David Gawthorpe caught a 4lb Sea trout at Woodtown croy on a black/yellow tube. Peter Ayton caught three sea trout to 2 1/2lb at Hardstone wood lower pool.

October; James Medd caught an 8lb salmon at Carthamartha Ford on a snaelda, and a 4lb Salmon at Endsleigh Ford and an 8lb salmon at Lowley run both on a 1 1/2″ silver stoat. Giles Peppiatt caught a 9 1/2lb Salmon at Parsons on a 1″ orange tube. Jeff Wehner caught an 8lb Salmon at georgie run on an Alley shrimp. Sandra Burling caught a 14lb Salmon at Leighwood croy and a 7lb Salmon at lower bush both caught on a 1 1/2″ Alley shrimp. Bob Unsworth caught  a 6lb Salmon at Endsleigh Ham on a 2″ Bobs special. Melanie Healy caught a 2 1/2lb salmon at Endsleigh Ford on a 1 1/2″ Silver Stoat tube and a 12lb salmon at Parsons on a black conehead. Oliver Holmes caught his first Tamar salmon a 10lb fish caught at Joles on a 1 1/2″ posh tosh. Bob Unsworth caught two salmon a 8lb and 6lb both caught at Endsleigh Ham on a 2″ bob’s special. Adam Vicary caught a 6 1/2lb salmon at Hardstone on a 1 1/2″ snaelda. Greg Stone caught four Salmon in one day, a 6lb at bush and a 6lb at lower bush caught on a No 6 Cascade. And a 15lb salmon at bush and a 15lb Salmon at lower bush caught on a No 6 posh tosh. Peter Ayton caught two salmon a 6lb at Bush caught on a red Francis, and a 5lb caught at Dunterue pool on a 1/4″Cascade tube. Bob Unsworth caught an 11lb Salmon at Perry’s stream on a 2″ Bob’s special. David Rawlings caught two salmon a 7lb and 5lb both caught at Gravel on a No 6 Posh tosh. John Dennis caught two Salmon a 5lb in Underhill caught on a 3″ Monkey, and a 4lb caught in Thompsons on a 1/4″ posh tosh.

The start of the season commenced with bright days accompanied by cool winds and overnight rainfall. Between the 1st and 23rd March river levels reached 8ft 6″ not falling below 4ft. Following the 24th we saw river levels fall and daytime temperatures rising.

April reached heights of 22 degrees, and by the end of the moth water levels dropped drastically, averaging the 1ft mark.

May continued to be hot and sunny, reaching 25 degrees. experiencing frosts at night with continued low river levels. Starting off the season, Ben Snee caught a 1lb sea trout at Lowley run. Followed by David Ripley who caught a 1lb sea trout at Joles.  L.t General Sir Edward Smyth Osbourne then caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Woodtown Ham on a 1″ black/yellow tube.

June continued with high temperatures and a few showers; river levels remained low until the 11th June, when levels rose to 3ft deeming the water unfishable, however, dropping back swiftly. On the 18^th of June, rainfall overnight brought water levels to 4ft. Will Nott caught two 1lb and a 3lb sea trout at Lowley run, using a No.12 Stoats Tail; Andrew Pieterse caught a 1lb sea trout at Bush on a black nymph; Peter Ayton caught a 1 3/4 lb sea trout at Joles on a No.10 green highlander; Christine Ayton caught 2 sea trout of 1lb at Joles on a micro conehead; Clinton Marshall caught 3 sea trout up to 1lb at both Dunterue weir and Inny lower run on a NO.12 executioner.

Endsleigh’s first salmon of the season was 8lb in weight, caught at Endsleigh Ford on a 1″ Monroe by Clinton Marshall, who also caught a 2lb sea trout at Endsleigh Ham on a 1/2″ red Francis. Julyan Capper caught a 5lb sea trout at Lowley run on a black/yellow Francis; Anthony de Normann caught two sea trout up to 1lb at Waterfall and Dunterue Weir on a No.8 Torrish; Nick Roullier caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Bush pool on a No.10 stoats tail; Peter Ayton caught a 2lb and 1 1/2lb sea trout at Black rock on a No.16 black/white fly; Christine Ayton caught a 1lb sea trout at black rock on a No.12 stoats tail; David Ripley caught Endsleigh’s second salmon of the season with a weight of 16lb, caught at Hardstone – as well as a 4lb sea trout at black rock. All were caught on a yellow/orange conehead; David Ripley caught three sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at rock pool and Thompsons, all were caught on a yellow/orange/gold conehead; Arthur Woolley caught a 9 1/2lb salmon at Endsleigh Ham followed by a 1lb sea trout at Endsleigh Ford, both on a 1″ black/orange cone head; Ben Snee caught a 1lb sea trout at Bush on a Cascade; Bill Forester caught five sea trout up to 1lb at Higher bush, Lily pond, and gravel – all were caught on a cascade No.12 double; Nick Medd caught three sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at Higher bush, Leighford, and Endsleigh ford; Alex Medd caught four sea trout, the largest at 3lb was caught at Joles; David Rawlings caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Inny II on a cascade No.12; David Rice caught two 3lb sea trout at beech tree , as well as a 1 1/2lb at Gravel, all on a 1″ black/gold tube; Alan White caught a 10lb salmon at Leighwood Croy on a cascade No.10 double.

High temperatures continued through July accompanied by heavy showers. The first week of August was extremely hot and sunny, reaching temperatures of 28 degrees. On the 10th of August was met with a storm with heavy rainfall, thunder, and lightening – followed by heavy prolonged periods of rain throughout the rest of the month, inducing high river levels and coloured water. September weather continued to be hot and sunny with very little rain. River levels falling under 1ft until the 30th of September with heavy rainfall. Martin Stanley caught a 7lb salmon at Endsleigh Ham and three sea trout to 1 1/2lb at Endsleigh ford all were caught on a 1 1/4″ Posh Tosh; Alan White caught a 12lb salmon at Inny Croy on a black/orange 1 1/4″ tube, as well as three sea trout up to 2 1/2lb at Carthamartha Run on a Mercers Fancy; Paula Jones caught two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at Bush on a Willie Gunn; John Dennis caught a 7lb salmon at Hardstone on a Monroe Killer; Greg Stone caught two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at Gravel on a 1/2″ Posh Tosh; Mark Rodick caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Underhill on a silver stoat No.10; Nigel Smith caught a 9lb salmon at Lowley Croy – a 6lb salmon at Hardstone croy on a yellow 1 1/2″ Waddington, as well as two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb on an orange/black Waddington; Tom Healy caught a 1lb sea trout at Bush on a Shrimp Cascade No.10; Melanie Healy caught a 3/4lb sea trout at Woodtown on a Stoats Tail; Stephen Illingworth caught 6 sea trout around 3/4lb at Leigh Ham on a Grey Heron No.10, a 3/4lb sea trout at Joles Corner on a Buckland Shrimp No.10, and four sea trout up to 1lb at Plantation on a Grey Heron No.10; F.B.G.Hervey Bathurst caught his first salmon at the weight of 14lb at Underhill on a black/silver/red cone head;  L.t General Edward Smyth Osbourne caught two salmon, one of 4lb at Leighwood Grid, and one of 5lb at Endsleigh ham – both were caught on a GP size 6; George Woolley also caught his fist salmon, weighing 8lb, caught at Southcombe Croy on a Blue Charm; Peter Ayton caught three sea trout; a 3lb at Inny III, a 1 1/2lb at Lily pond, and a 4lb caught at Lower Inny run. all were caught on a silver stoat; Alan white caught a 10lb salmon at Endsleigh Ham, and two sea trout up to 2lb at Gravel and Dunterue. all were caught on a Mercers Fancy; John Dennis caught two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at Harstone, and two sea trout up to 1lb at Thompson, all were caught on a yellow Stoats tail; Ian Hone caught a 7lb salmon at Lowley run on a Red Francis; Archie Wilson caught a 10lb salmon at Leighwood Croy on a red double.

October continued with heavy rainfall, causing river levels to reach 11ft on the 5^th. Heavy showers kept river levels high with coloured water until the end of the season. Melanie Healy caught two salmon, 4lb at Inny croy on a 1 1/2″ Stoats Tail tube, as well as a 6lb at Inny Croy on a 1″ Stoats Tail tube; Martin Moody caught a 10lb salmon at Bush on a 1 1/2″ Stoats tail. John Dennis caught a 9lb salmon at Hardstone on a 1 1/2″ Posh tosh.

April started with sunny days reaching 16 degrees with cold nights and several frosts, good river heights between 1ft 8” – 2ft. Simon Pass caught our first salmon this season a 11lb caught at gravel on a 1 ½” cascade tube, then Nicholas Reevell caught our second salmon weighing 9lb at gravel on a no 6 yellow stoats’ tail.

The beginning of May saw river levels drop to 1ft and remained this height throughout the month, with water temperatures continually rising. May produced 4 salmon and 12 sea trout Our first sea trout was caught on the 11^th May. Jeff Wehner caught a 12lb salmon at Joles corner on  a ¾” black/yellow tube; Alan white caught a 10lb salmon at bush on a ½” stoats tail; Charlie Yeoward caught a 10lb salmon at Woodtown croy on a black/yellow/green snelda; Christine Ayton caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at waterfall on a no 12 snelda; followed by Peter Ayton, who caught eight sea trout between 1 1/2lb – 2 1/2lb at Underhill, Higher Dunterue and Woodtown Ham caught on a cascade no 14 double and a no 12 mayfly.

June provided sunshine and showers with short lived rises in water levels and consistent high river temperatures. A really good month for sea trout with 45 caught, the largest at 9 1/2lb. 7 salmon were caught, the largest 13lb. John Dennis caught our first June salmon at 13lb, at Underhill on a orange/black 2” tube – and three sea trout up to 1 1/2lb. Nicholas Reevell caught a 2lb sea trout at Dunterue stage on a stoats tail; Anna Manners caught a 12lb salmon at Inny croy and a 1 1/4lb sea trout at gravel both caught on a black/yellow 1 ½” tube; Clinton Marshall caught a 9lb salmon at Lowley run on a 1 ½” yellow/black Torrish; Anthony De Normann caught his first Endsleigh salmon of 13lb at Leighwood croy on a red Francis; Josh Evans caught a 9lb salmon at Underhill on a no 8 Alley shrimp; Charles Whiteaway caught a 5 1/2lb sea trout at Endsleigh ford on a 1” orange Monkey; Duncan Martin caught his first Endsleigh salmon of 10lb at Dunterue stage on a 1 ½” Willie Gunn; David Carharts caught a 9 1/2lb sea trout at Adams pool on a no 6 Archie fly; Michael Parry caught a 10lb salmon at Woodtown croy on a No 8 silver stoat; and Clinton Marshall caught a 2lb sea trout at Thompsons on a posh tosh.

July, much the same as June, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees and river levels dropping. July was a great month for sea trout with 73 being caught. Nigel Smith caught six sea trout between 1/2lb to 1lb at Waterfall, Adams pool and Carthamartha, all caught on a Monroe killer; Professor Mark Mc Gurk caught two sea trout of 2lb caught at Inny junction on a silver doctor; Will Nott caught two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at Dunterue weir on a Alexander; Sandra Burling caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Joles corner on a cascade; Josh Wehner caught a 1/2lb sea trout at Woodtown croy on a black/green ½” tube; Charlie Snee caught a 1/2lb sea trout at Beech tree on a no 14 gold head; Bob Unsworth caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Underhill on a no 10 bumble, as well as a 1 1/4lb sea trout at Beech tree on a silver cone head; Ben Snee caught eight sea trout between 1/2lb-1lb at Lily pond, Carthamartha and Lowley run on a coach man; Madeleine Woolley caught a 1/2lb sea trout at Endsleigh ford on a gold head; Maiella Woolley caught a 1/2lb sea trout at Lowley run on a gold head; Alan Maddison caught a 5 1/2lb sea trout at Dunterue on a black tube; Hector Smyth Osbourne caught two sea trout of 1lb at Thompsons on a No 14 gold head bumble; and Lt General Sir Edward Smyth Osbourne caught a 1 1/2lb sea trout at Inny croy on a no 12 butcher.

August saw high temperatures with two small rises in river levels, reaching only 1ft,7”. Five Salmon were caught, the two largest of which reaching 11lb, were caught at Bush and Endsleigh ham. 22 sea trout caught, the largest of which at 10lb was caught at Underhill. Lee Lean Choong caught a  1 1/2lb sea trout at Woodtown grid on a GHRE;  Anna Manners caught a 2lb sea trout at Endsleigh ford on a black/white tube; Arthur Woolley caught his first Endsleigh salmon at 11lb, at Bush on a No 10 silver stoats tail; David Gawthorpe caught two 1lb sea trout at Endsleigh ham and Holly tree, both caught on a 1 ½” yellow/black tube; Sir Richard Dearlove caught a 10lb sea trout at Underhill on a black mouse fly; Bob Unsworth caught a 4lb grilse at Lamerhooe run on a bob’s special; Alan white caught a 11lb salmon at Endsleigh ham, and three sea trout up to 2lb caught on a Mercers fancy; Alex Medd caught a 3/4lb sea trout at Leighwood croy on a black/yellow tube; Mark Randall caught a 1lb sea trout at carthamartha run on a No 12 black fly; Jane Randall caught a 1lb sea trout at Carthamartha run on a No 10 strawberry Mc Kenzie; followed by Adrian Cross, who caught a 4lb Grilse at Bush on a 1” black/yellow tube.

September started sunny and hot with low river levels and high water temperatures, until the 23^rd September which saw heavy rain, raising river levels to 4ft 8” and above. This continued until the end of the season with fluctuating river levels, prolonged rain, and coloured water. Nigel Smith caught a 7lb salmon at Lowley croy on a 1 ½” Waddington; Kevin Dawe caught a 3 1/2lb Grilse at Woodtown ham on a No 12 executioner; John Dennis caught a 4lb Grilse at Inny croy on a No 10 medicine fly; Peter Ayton caught three sea trout up to 2 1/2lb at Joles, on a ¾” conehead green highlander; Lt  General Sir Edward Smyth Osbourne caught two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at oak tree and canoe pool on a Killer shrimp; Stephen Illingworth caught a 14lb salmon at Woodtown croy on a 1 ¼” black/yellow tube, followed by two sea trout up to 1 1/2lb at Pulpit on a ¾” black tube; William Forrester caught a 12lb salmon at Adams pool on 2 ½” yellow Torrish; Arthur Woolley caught a 3lb sea trout at Dunterue stage on a No 10 coachman; Charlie Yeoward caught a 3lb Grilse at Inny lower run on a Monroe killer; and James Medd caught a 4lb sea trout at Adams pool on a 2” Flood flasher.

In October, Ian Hone caught a 12 1/2lb salmon at Higher Dunterue on a black/yellow 2 ½” tube; Alan white caught two salmon. Of which, a 4lb and a 5lb – both caught at Bush on a 2” cascade; Sir Frederick Hervey Bathurst caught an 11lb salmon at Gravel on a black/yellow 1 ½” tube; Charlie Yeoward caught a 17lb salmon at gravel and a 4lb Grilse at Lowley run, both using a Killarney killer; Alan White caught a 10lb salmon at plantation on a 2” cascade tube.

The river proved unfruitful for salmon catches, with only 31 being caught this season. Opposed by the highest recorded sea trout catches, with a total of 176. The largest salmon this season was 17lb caught at Gravel pool, and the largest sea trout of 10lb was caught at Underhill pool.

Summary of 2018 season.

April started with high river levels and continuous rain. Until the last week of April when temperatures reached 25 degrees and river levels started to drop. Endsleigh first salmon this season a 14,lb fish was caught by professor Mark Mc Gurk at Inny croy on a black 1″ stoats tail tube.  John Dennis caught a 11,lb salmon at woodtown croy on a black/orange 1″ tube.

May continued to be a very hot month, with river levels dropping and water temperatures increasing. The last week of May big tides and a slight rise in water levels brought in our first run of sea trout. Andrew Pieterse caught a 10,lb salmon and a 2,lb sea trout at Inny croy on a black/yellow sunray shadow.Nigel Smith caught a 11,lb salmon at lowley croy on a 1″waddington. Nigel Smith caught a 15,lb Salmon and 3,lb sea trout at Leighwood Croy both caught on a 1″ yellow Waddington. Charlie yeoward caught a 22,lb salmon at Underhill on a 1″ comet tube. Peter Johnson caught a 8,lb salmon at woodtown Croy on a 1″yellow/black tube.  Charlie Yeoward caught a 8,lb salmon at Woodtown croy on a 1″ Comet tube.  Arthur Manners caught a 1 3/4,lb sea trout at Endsleigh ham on a black/yellow/silver fly. Will Nott caught a 9,lb Salmon at bush on a shrimp fly no 6. Sir Richard Dearlove caught two sea trout of 1,lb at leighwood Croy and Weir Pool both caught on a red flame.

June’s weather got hotter, river levels got lower and river temperatures increased. Mark Rodick caught a 1 1/2,lb sea trout at Joles on a silver stoats tail. Vaughn Tanner caught a 1/2,lb sea trout at beech tree on a cascade. Greg Stone caught a 1,lb sea trout at bush on a no 14 shrimp fly. Anthony De Normann caught a 1/2,lb sea trout at Joles on a black pennell. John Williams caught a 2,lb sea trout at Joles on a shrimp fly no 12. Simon Pugsley caught a 3/4,lb sea trout at Dunterue weir on a GRHE no 16. Robert Romanes caught a 1,lb sea trout at gravel on a 1″ black tube.

July’s weather continued to be very hot. And on the 29th July we had rain and a storm over night. The river rose eight inches, but dropped back down quickly. Sea trout moved swiftly up river and produced good catches.   Mr peter Ayton  caught three sea trout a 2, 3/4 lb and 2, 1/2lb at Leigh gate pool on a Williams favourite no 12 and a 1 ,1/2 lb at waterfall on a cockney rebel no 12. Mr charlie yeoward caught a 1,1/2lb sea trout at lowley croy on a silver stoat no 12. Melanie Healy caught two sea trout a 3/4,lb at shippen on a 1/2″ black tube, and a 2,lb at Dunterue on a black stoats tail. Andrew pieterse caught three sea trout a 2,lb 1,lb at Inny croy on a black/silver spider, a 3/4,lb at woodtown croy on a pheasant tail nymph. Sandra Burling  caught a 1,lb sea trout at Inny croy on a hitch.Gareth Craze caught a 1,lb sea trout at gravel on a stoats tail. John Dennis caught four sea trout between 1/2,lb  and 1- 1/4,lb at Endsleigh ford on a stoats tail. Mr Ben Snee caught three sea trout between 3/4,lb and 1 1/2,lb at gravel,Endsleigh Ford and Inny croy on a stoats tail and coach man no 12. Charlotte Snee caught her first fish at Endsleigh a 1,lb sea trout caught at Endsleigh ford on a silver stoat no 12. Charles Whiteaway caught a 1 1/4,lb sea trout at Leighwood croy on a stoats tail.

August drought weather conditions continued. with a slight drop in water temperatures towards the end of the month. Peter Ayton caught a 1,lb sea trout at Woodtown ham on a stoats tail. Clinton Marshall caught a 2, 1/2lb sea trout at pulpit on a Monroe killer. Giles Hardwood caught a 1,lb sea trout at upper bush on a teal blue/silver no 10. George Harwood caught two sea trout of 1,lb at bush on a cascade. Ted stourton caught a 10,lb salmon at Beech tree on a thunder & lightning 1 1/2″ tube. Alex Medd caught three sea trout between 1/2lb and 1,lb at Inny lower run on a black/yellow/red fly, and a 1/2,lb sea trout at Duchess pool on a black/yellow no 12. Nick Medd caught a 3/4,lb sea trout at Inny junction on a stoats tail no 10. Clinton Marshall caught our first grilse this season a 3,lb caught at Endsleigh ham on a Willie gunn. John Dennis caught two sea trout of 1,lb at lowley run on a stoats tail. Charles Whiteaway caught a 4 1/,lb grilse at Lowley croy on a cascade no 8 double. John Dennis caught a           3, 1/2lb salmon at Inny croy on a Willie gunn. September drought conditions continued, but evenings became cooler and water temperatures started to drop. On the 22nd September heavy rain brought river levels up two feet. Salmon started running up river and within seven days, we had caught 15 Salmon. Our best weeks fishing for the whole season.  Ben Snee caught a 1, 1/4lb sea trout at Higher bush on a stoats tail no 12. and 3 sea trout  to 1 lb at waterfall on a black/gold no 14. Simon Grange caught a 9 lb salmon at weir pool on a GP no 12 double. Johnny Trenchard caught a 3 lb sea trout at hardstone on a teal silver no 10. Michael Gubbins caught a 2 lb sea trout at Duchess Croy on a 2″ yellow/black tube. Nick Medd caught a 1 1/2 lb sea trout at Leigh gate pool on a stoats tail. Simon Bell caught two sea trout to 1 lb at lowley run on a thunder and lightning no 12 and a 1 lb sea trout at lowley croy on a stoats tail. Nigel Smith caught a 5 lb salmon at hardstone and a 7 lb salmon at carthamartha on a 1  1/2″ yellow/silver waddington.

October in need for more rain, but it came too late and washed out the last weekend of the season.Stephen illingsworth caught a 4 lb Salmon  at Beera on a grey heron. John Dennis caught a 8 lb salmon at Joles corner on a monkey gold/black. Alan white caught a 12 lb salmon at Leighwood croy on a cascade. John Dennis caught a 6 lb salmon at Adams on a 1″ stoats tail tube. Dr Bill Medd caught a 4 1/2 lb salmon at Holly tree on a 3/4″ tube. Sir Richard Dearlove caught a 9 lb salmon at Underhill on a 1- 1/2″ stoats tail tube.

Endsleigh caught 39 salmon this season, the largest 22 lb caught at Underhill. And caught 99 sea trout, the largest 7 lb caught at Thompson’s.

Summary of 2017 season

March was a wet month with a 10ft 6” river on the 21st.

April was warm with cold winds and frost at night and low river heights. Our first salmon caught this season was caught on the 29th April at Woodtown croy on a 1” monkey tube by Mark Krukowski.

May warm days and cold nights river height 1Ft to 1ft 8” and clear for most of the month – Sandra Burling caught a 14lb salmon at Joles on a UV fly size 14. Andrew Frost caught a 13lb salmon at Woodtown croy on a 1” stoat’s tail. Simon Pass caught an 8lb salmon at Inny croy on a Monroe killer 1” tube. Alex Jones caught a 2lb sea trout at Inny junction on a 3” cone head monkey fly. Bob Unsworth caught a 9lb salmon at Inny croy on a bobs special. Roger Holmes caught a 3lb sea trout at Endsleigh Ford. Mark Izzard caught an 11lb salmon at Woodtown croy. Martin stone caught a 10lb salmon at lower Shippen on a black ackroyd. Sir Richard Dearlove caught a 12lb salmon at first run on a ¾” cascade.

June first two weeks wet then temperatures up to 25 degrees water temperatures reached 17 degrees and river height dropped to 10”. Nigel smith caught 7lb salmon at Hardstone croy and a 3lb sea trout at Lowley croy both caught on a 2” yellow/silver Waddington. Donald Mac kinnen caught a 2lb sea trout at Underhill on a 1 ¼” cascade. Mark Rodick caught a 12lb salmon at Endsleigh Ham on a 1” cascade tube. Bob Unsworth caught a 12lb salmon at Inny croy on a bobs special. Simon Wood caught a 10lb salmon at Woodtown croy on a black Pennell. Philip Graham caught a 16lb salmon at Joles on a cascade 1 ½” tube.

July carried on being hot temperatures reached 26 degrees but rain over night, river heights low but would rise a few inches and colour up for several days. Nigel smith caught a 7 1/2lb salmon at Beera croy and a 10lb salmon at Holly tree caught on a yellow/silver 2” Waddington. Alan white caught our first Grilse this season a 4lb at parsons on a 1” cascade. John Taylor caught a 6lb salmon at gravel on a orange/silver no 12. Sam Lygo caught a 5lb salmon at Leighwood croy on a no 8 Sams special. General Smyth Osbourne caught 2 salmon a 4lb grilse at Lowley run on a 2” black/gold tube and a 9lb salmon at big rock on a 1” yellow/black tube. August started with low river levels but rain and heavy showers put the river out of order for a lot of the month. Last week of August river low and very hot .Alan white caught 4 salmon a 10lb at Endsleigh Ham, 5lb at Dunterue weir, 4lb Dunterue stage, 6lb at Inny croy all caught on a mercers fancy. Endsleigh caught 111 salmon this season the largest 26lb caught by Sir Richard Dearlove at Beech tree and Endsleigh caught 129 sea trout this season the largest 7 1/2lb caught by Mark Rodick at Beech tree.

A very cold March with a 10ft and 11ft flood. Cold weather continued into April with very little rain and low river levels. Our first Salmon was caught in April a 14,lb Salmon caught at Endsleigh Ham. May into mid June water levels dropped to summer levels and water temperatures rose rapidly. May catches were 4 Salmon and 2 Sea trout.

Second week of June a few days of heavy rain brought in a good run of fish and kept river levels higher for a week or two with 21 Salmon caught and 38 Sea trout caught in June. 18 Salmon and 34 Sea trout caught in July.

July and August through to mid September water temperatures reached 20 degrees and river levels were desperatly low. The last week of september cold evenings and heavy rain brought down water temperatures and replenished the river producing good Salmon catches. 13 Salmon were caught and 14 Sea trout in September and 34 Salmon were caught in October. Our largest Salmon this season was 15,lb caught at Holly tree and our biggest Sea trout was 6,lb caught at Joles Corner.

This Season was the driest season on record for 15 years. but dispite difficult fishing conditions throughout the season Endsleigh Fisherman caught 102 Salmon and 107 Sea Trout.

Endsleigh are pleased to report that our first Salmon has been caught a 15lb Salmon caught at Higher Bush on a 11/2″ Stoats tail tube caught by Major General Edward Smyth Osbourne. April has been very warm with Low river levels . May has started off with cold winds and a large drop in day time temperatures and heavy showers. Mr Chris Price caught a 16 lb Salmon at Underhill on a 1/2″ black/silver tube and two Sea Trout a 4lb at Beera Grid on a 1″ black tube, a 3lb at Endsleigh Ford on a size 12 Shrimp Fly. Mr Bill Morris caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Lower Black rock on a 1″ Black Waddington. Mr Duncan Currell caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Inny Junction on a Silver butcher no 10. week commencing 9th October : Endsleigh members weekend produced some great catches. Mr Harry Unsworth caught a 15,lb Salmon at Big rock on a bob’s special 1 1/2″ tube. Camilla Medd caught her 2nd Salmon this season a 10,lb fish caught at Waterfall on a 2″ yellow/orange tube. Bertram Medd caught a 9,lb Salmon at Beech Tree on a black/yellow 1 1/4″ tube. Emily Medd caught a 12,lb Salmon at Woodtown Croy on a 1 1/4″ Silver stoat tube. Dr Wilfred Medd caught a 6,lb Salmon at Woodtown Croy on a 1 1/4″ claret tube. Mrs Paula Jones caught a Salmon of 8,lb at Georgys Run on a No 8 Shrimp. Mr John Dennis caught a 4,lb Salmon at Dunterue pool on a purple/red tube.

Summary of Season.

March had very little rain with cold north easterly winds and low river levels for this time of year. April was warm with a couple of rises in river levels and weather temperatures reaching 22 degrees. Our first Salmon was caught in April by Major General Edward Smyth Osbourne a fresh 15,lb Salmon caught at Higher Bush. May had much the same little rain and very low river levels and warm weather. We caught 4 Salmon in May the largest was 16,lb caught at Underhill and 17 Sea trout caught the largest 5,lb caught at Lowley Run. June started with heavy rain brining river levels up to 6ft but dropped back fast to 2ft within 24 hours. The rest of June was sunny ,warm and very low river levels. 16 Salmon were caught the largest was 12,lb caught by Mr Ben Snee at Woodtown Croy, 13 Sea trout were caught in June the largest for many years at Endsleigh was 12,lb caught by Mr Ben Harwood at Underhill. July no rain, very hot and water temperatures reaching 18 degrees. 7 Salmon were caught in July ,the largest was 12,lb caught by professor Mark Mc Gurk at Beera Grid. 29 Sea trout were caught in July the largest was 4,lb caught by Mr Tommy Trenchard at Inny Junction III. August had a couple of rises in water levels and a noticeable Improvement of numbers of fish running up river.The last week of August the rain started and the river rose to 10ft the highest river level this season. August produced 30 Salmon the largest was 15,lb caught by Mr charlie Yeoward at Inny Croy. 32 Sea Trout were caught in August the largest was 4,lb caught at Beech Tree. September our water levels kept rising and falling with continuous rain, brining good numbers of fish up river. September we caught 41 Salmon the largest was 14,lb caught by Mr Charlie Bracher at Endsleigh Ford. 21 Sea Trout were caught the largest was 5,lb caught by Mr alan white at Beech Tree. October good river heights and conditions with cold nights and water temperatures dropping to 9 degrees. October produced 15 Salmon the largest 15,lb caught by Mr Harry Unsworth at Big Rock.

This Season until mid August rainfall was the lowest for many years. Thanks to the rain at the end of August and September, which produced a good number of fish. with Endsleigh catching 114 Salmon and 115 Sea Trout a good end to our Season.

2014 seaon on the Tamar has started off fairly slow despite the weather improving the water temperature is still quite cold. At the start of May over the bank holiday weekend there have been some Salmon entering the system as we have caught 3 the largest being 19lb.

Mr Jake Fenton caught a Sea Trout of 1,lb at Leighwood Croy on a teal blue/silver. Member Sir Frederick Hervey Bathurst caught a 10lb Salmon at Woodtown Croy on a red shrimp fly no 10. Mr Alan White caught a 4lb Grilse at Weir Pool and a 2lb Sea Trout at Duchess on a mercers fancy.

The late Laura Barclay’s grandson Natsuki Barclay caught his first Salmon at Endsleigh a fine 15lb Salmon caught at Carthamartha on a Alley red shrimp . Mr John Dennis caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Carthamartha on a black/silver.

Mr Tim Smith caught a 9,lb Salmon at Adams Pool on a black riffle Hitch. Mr David Pilkington caught 3 Sea Trout to 2,lb at Inny Croy on a BWO dry. Mr Alex Jones caught a 2,lb Sea Trout at carthamartha on a black/silver stoat. Mr Mark wormald caught 2 Sea Trout of 3,lb at Underhill on a 1″ black/silver. Mr John dennis caught 4 Sea Trout biggest 4,lb at Dunterue Weir and Carthamartha Run on a black peacock 1.5″ . Mr Charlie Yeoward caught 7lb Salmon at Inny Junction and a 4lb at Inny Croy both caught on a orange/purple double no 8.

October 4th Rain started over night raising river levels and fish started to run up river the river conditions were far from perfect but Endsleigh’s members FFA weekend produced some fine fishing and catches. Mrs Pippa Medd caught the largest Salmon of 14lb at Dunterue Stage on a 1″ black tube. General smyth Osbourne caught a 9lb Salmon at New Pool on a black/red 1″ tube. Mr Simon Wood caught a 9lb Salmon at Inny Junction on a 1/2″ black/orange tube. Mrs Melanie Healy caught 2 Salmon 8lb at Beech Tree on a 1. 1/4″ black/yellow tube and a 7lb Salmon at Lower Boathouse on a 2″ Flood flasher.Mr Nick Medd caught 2 Salmon 4lb at Dunterue Weir and a 4lb Salmon at Inny Croy both caught on a 1″ black tube. Mr James Medd caught a 4lb Salmon at Higher Bush on a 1,1/4″ Willy Gunn Tube. New Member Dr Wye Loo caught his first Salmon of 6lb at Lowley Run on a 1″ Torrish. Mr Charles Carey caught a 5.1/2lb Salmon at Underhill on a 1.1/2″ Willy Gunn Waddington. Mr Arthur Manners caught a 4lb Salmon at Endsleigh Ham on a 1.1/2″ Willy Gunn tube. Mr Tom Burne caught his first Salmon of 5lb at Inny Junction on a 1.1/2″ Willy Gunn Tube. Mrs Katie Burne caught a 4.1/2lb Salmon at Pulpit on a 1.1/2″ Willy Gunn tube.

Summary of Season.

April through to Mid May started of cold with good river heights and 4 good size spring Salmon being caught the biggest 19lb caught by Mrs Emma Hydleman at Adams Pool .Sea Trout started coming into the river with a 6.1/2lb being caught in May by member Mr Charles Carey at Dunterue Weir and a 4lb being caught by Fergus Bracher at Gravel pool. The last 2 weeks in May the weather became warm and Sunny and continued to get hotter throughout June and July resulting in warm water temperatures and low river levels. Fisherman still managed to catch a few larger Salmon a 17lb Salmon was caught by Mr Mark Heyes at Woodtown Croy in June .But despite the lack of Salmon June and July produced good numbers of Sea Trout. Our Lower water beats tend to produce good catches when river levels are low.

At the start of August after several days of rain the river rose and our first Grilse was caught and the odd days of rain throughout August kept river levels up , In August we caught 17 Salmon the biggest caught by members son Natsuki Barclay a 15lb Salmon caught at Carthamartha his first Salmon at Endsleigh. during August there was a cold spell where temperatures went down to 2 degrees and a ground frost.

September was the driest since records began in 1910 but thanks to the rain in late August Salmon and sea Trout were caught throughout september,11 Salmon were caught the biggest 14lb caught by Mr Nigel Smith at Lowley Croy and 23 Sea Trout caught.

We finally got the rain that we needed all season in October maybe a little bit too late , but considering conditions throughout the year we still had some very good catches.

This March has been recored as the coldest March for 50 years with water temperatures dropping as low as two degrees.

The four Spring Salmon that have been caught were all caught on the Tidal stretches of the river. Mr Mike Symons caught a 13lb Salmon on a yellow/red MJS. Mr Steve Symons caught 2 Salmon both weighing 8lb , one caught on a yellow/red silver conehead and the other caught on a purple/blue conehead. Mr Jon Mc Quade caught a 15lb Salmon on a red/yellow/black MJS.

The first two weeks of April were very cold with minus temperatures at night keeping water temperatures very low. By mid April we have had a few days of rain and a huge rise in temperatures which has started fly life hatching and a few trout rising.

Mr Gerald Spiers caught a 9lb Salmon at Impham meadows on a yellow/red conehead and a Sea trout of 2lb caught on a black/silver 1 inch tube. Mr Mike Gadsdon caught a 11lb Salmon at Underhill on a black/silver 1 inch tube.Mr MacLachlan caught a sea Trout of 1lb at Inny Junction on a gold headed nymph. Mr steve Symons caught a 2lb Sea Trout on a black/silver 1 inch tube.

May started off cold at night but warm during the day as the month went on we have had very heavy downpours and cold winds, river levels rising slightly with the downpours.Due to the cold water temperatures Sea Trout and Salmon Smolts were late running this season but the number of Smolts that ran the river were very good.On the 15th May after heavy prolonged rain the river rose to 8ft and as it dropped and cleared a few fresh Salmon and Sea Trout have been caught. Mr James Dennis caught a 12lb Salmon at Southcombe on a red/gold 1 inch tube. Mr Mike Barratt caught a 3lb Sea Trout at Underhill on a black/gold 1 inch tube. Mr john Dolley caught a 10lb Salmon at Adams Pool and a 1lb Sea Trout at hardstone on a black/yellow 1.5 inch tube. Mr Tim Smith caught 3 Salmon a 9lb at Bush,a 12lb and 9lb at Gravel all were caught on a 3/4 inch Tosh longed winged. Member Mr Jeff Wehner caught a 3lb sea Trout at Dunterue Stage on a black 1 inch tube. Lady Member Mrs Pippa Medd caught a 4lb sea Trout at Leighwood Croy on a no 8 double black/yellow. Lady Member Mrs Melanie Healy caught a 3lb Sea Trout at Dunterue pool on a black/yellow 1.5 inch tube.

Member Mr Will Nott caught a 12lb Salmon at Carthamartha Run on a 1 inch Cascade double. Mr Frederick Hervey Bathurst caught an 11 lbSalmon at Gravel on a black/green Conehead. Mr Jon Mc Quade caught a 5lb Salmon at Impham Meadows on a red/yellow sms. Mr Steve Symons caught a 10lb Salmon at Symons Pool on a purple Conehead. Mr Yeoward caught a 12lb Salmon at Gravel on a black/yellow 1/2 inch tube. Mr Reevell caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Carthamartha run on a size 12 cascade.

June has started off with warm weather and water temperatures and low river levels ,rain is desperately needed to freshen up the river. Mr Clinton Marshall caught a Salmon of 11’lb at Lower black rock on a no 8 Monroe killer. Mr Mike Symons caught a 7lb Salmon at Leighwood croy on a 1/2 inch red/yellow MJS. Mr Jon Mc Quade caught a Salmon of 8lb at shippen Pool on a 1/2 inch posh tosh tube. Mr John Dennis caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Leighwood croy on a stoats tail. Mr Gary Pearson caught a 8lb Salmon at Leighgate Pool on a 1 inch black/orange tube.

Member Mr John Foster caught a 15lb Salmon at Woodtown Croy on a red/yellow MJS. Mr Clinton Marshall caught a 9lb Salmon at Inny Croy on a no 8 double Willy Gunn. Weather still warm with the odd rainy day but it has not produced enough water to bring river levels up and lower water temperatue. Mr Nigel Smith caught 2 Salmon a 10lb at Hardstone Croy on a 1″ Torrish and a 8lb at lowley run on a 1″ Willy Gunn. Mr Ken Mc Farlane caught a 11,lb Salmon at Bush on a stoats tail 1/2 ” tube. Mr Mike Turner caught a 10lb Salmon at Beera Croy on a black/orange 1″ tube. Mr Graham Bray caught a 8lb Salmon at Inny Croy on a cascade no 8 double. Mr Alan White caught a 10lb Salmon at Parsons on a black/gold 1/2″ tube. Mr Paul Roach caught a 10lb Salmon at Harstone on a cascade size 8 double.Mr Jon Mc Quade caught a 8lb Salmon at Shippen Pool on a 1/2″ posh Tosh. Heavy rain still desperately needed. Mr Julian Davey caught a 12lb Salmon at Dunterue Weir on a JD special . Mr Clive Lunn caught two Sea Trout at Underhill a 4lb on a surface Lure and a 2lb on a stoats tail.

July has started off with soaring temperatures and very low water. Mr David Lynch caught a 9lb Salmon at Inny Croy on a WMD. Member Captain David Bailey caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Lowley Run on a stoats tail . Mr John Dennis caught a 3lb Sea Trout at Lily Pond on a stoats tail . Mr Gerald Spiers caught a 7lb Salmon and a 5lb sea Trout and 6 peel between 3/4lb and 1’lb at Weir Pool on the lower beats all were caught on a stoats tail . Mr Andrew Marconi caught a 2 1/2lb Sea Trout at Endsleigh Ford on a Monroe Killer. Member Mr Charles Carey caught a 1’lb sea Trout at Inny Croy on a stoats tail. Hector Smyth Osbourne caught a 1’lb sea Trout at weir Pool.

August began with 48 hours of light rain with the odd heavy downpour which brought a short rise in water levels for 24 hours and moved a few fresh fish up the river. Weather very warm with levels now back to very low.Member Mr John foster caught a 10lb Salmon at woodtown Croy on a MJS yellow/red. Member Mr Harry Unsworth caught a 5lb Salmon at Beera Croy on a bob’s special and a 6lb Salmon at Bush pool on a black/yellow 1″ tube . Mr Alan white caught a 13lb salmon at Beech Tree on a mercers fancy and a 6lb Salmon and a 2lb sea trout at Endsleigh Ham on a black/orange 1″ tube and a 6lb Salmon at leighwood Croy on a mercers fancy . Mr Charlie Yeoward caught a 1’b Sea trout at Higher Bush on a bumble no 10. Mr jon Barnard caught a 2lb Sea Trout at Underhill on a surface lure.Members son Mr Fergus Bracher caught a 6lb Salmon at Leighwood Croy on a no 8 red/gold double. Member Mr Will Nott caught a 2lb sea trout at Adams pool on a Bumble. Mr Andy King caught a 1’lb sea trout at Carthamartha on a black surface lure. Mr Clinton Marshall caught a 1 1/2lb Sea trout at Inny Croy on a 1/2 ” cascade tube. Mrs Claire Marshall caught a 1 1/4 lb wild brown trout at Joles Corner on a size 18 pheasant tail nymph.

Members son Alex Medd caught 2 Salmon a 10lb at Hardstone and a 5 1/2 lb at Bush both were caught on a black/silver no 12 double. Members daughter Emily Medd caught a sea trout of 1’lb at Thompsons on a silver double no 14. Mr Waring caught a sea trout of 1’lb at Browns on a blue teal no 14.

September started with Autumn mornings and evening warm and sunny during the day and very low river levels. Mr Nigel smith caught a 10lb Salmon at Lowley Croy on a yellow/black waddington and 2 sea trout a 1 1/2lb at Adams on a no 12 black pennell and a 1 1/4lb at Carthamartha Run on a 1″ stoats tail. Member Mr Charlie Bracher caught a 1’lb sea trout at Lowley Run on a no 10 black/yellow. Mrs Katherine Peppiatt caught a 1’lb sea trout at Lowley Croy on a no 12 stoats tail. Mr John Dennis caught a 2lb sea trout at Endsleigh Ham on a no 8 stoats tail. Mr Nigel Smith caught a 10lb Salmon at lowley Croy on a yellow/black waddington and a 2 1/2 lb Sea trout at Adams and a 1 1/4 lb Sea trout at Carthamartha Run both were caught on a no 12 black pennell.

Long standing Member Dr Wilfred Medd caught a 7lb Salmon and a 3 1/2 lb sea trout at Underhill both were caught on a 1″ red tube. Mr David Pilkington caught 2 Sea trout a 2 1/2lb and a 1 1/4lb caught above Inny Croy on a silver stoats tail . Mr charlie Yeoward caught a 2 1/4lb Sea trout at Bush on a park shrimp. Mr David Gawthorpe caught a 2 3/4lb Sea trout at Leighwood Croy on a 3″ yellow tube. Mr Haines caught 2 sea trout of 1’lb at Gunnislake Weir on a black peacock spider.

After heavy rain on the 13th september the river rose to 2ft 5″ but within 12 hours dropped to 1ft 2 ” heavy showers are not enough need a couple of days of good solid rain. where we have had such a long dry period the ground is soaking up the rain and not getting into the river system.

Lady Member Mrs Melanie Healy caught a 2lb Sea trout at Hardstone grid on a no 8 red shrimp. Mr Alan White caught 2 Salmon at shippen croy a 5lb,4lb and a 6 1/2lb Salmon at Lamerhoo and a 4lb, 2 1/2lb sea trout at lower cottage all were caught on a black/orange mercers fancy.Mr Steve Symons caught a 14lb Salmon at Impham Meadows on a 1 1/2″ yellow tube. Mr Jon Mc Quade caught a 11’lb Salmon at Impham meadows on a 1″ red snalda.

Lady member Mrs Pippa Medd caught a 4lb Sea trout at Inny croy on a 2″ sunray shadow black. Mr Alan white caught a 8lb Salmon at Blanchdown on our lower water beats on a 1 1/2″ yellow conehead. Mr Murphy caught a sea trout of 1’lb at gravel on a butchers red 1/4″ tube. Mr Bowden caught a sea trout of 1’lb at Carthamartha on a finned horn silver no 12. Mr Mike Riddler caught a 3/4lb sea trout at lily Pond on a black/yellow 1″ tube.

October Mr Mark Wormald caught a 6lb Salmon at Black Rock on a cascade no 12. Mr Alan White Caught 2 Salmon a 14lb at Lamerhoo Croy and a 5lb at Lamerhoo run both were caught on a 3/4″ mercers fancy. Mr Mike Symons caught a 6lb Salmon above Woodtown on a 2″ yellow MJS.

Member Mr John Foster caught 3 Salmon a 9lb at Joles , 5lb at Endsleigh Ford, 4lb at Leighwood Croy all caught on a 1″ MJS yellow tube. Lady Member Mrs Melanie Healy caught a 11’lb Salmon at Leigh Pool on a pink steelhead. Lady Member Mrs Pippa Medd caught a 5lb Salmon at Lower Endsleigh Ham on a no 8 double Alley Shrimp. Mr Mark Rodick caught 2 Salmon a 7lb at Black Rock and a 4lb at Dunterue pool both were caught on a white/orange 1 1/2″ tube. Mr Martin Stone caught a 15lb Salmon at Endsleigh Ham on a red GP 1/2″ tube. Mr James Bates caught a 8lb Salmon at Leighwood Croy on a black/yellow tube.Mr Alan White caught 2 Salmon a 10lb at Parsons, 7lb at Endsleigh Ham both were caught on a mercers fancy. Mr John Dennis caught 3 Salmon 8lb at Inny Junction, 7lb at Lowley Run, 5lb at Underhill all were caught on a red/yellow MJS.

The season started with an extremely cold and dry spring at Easter the river was colder and clearer than it has been for many years. As a result the Salmon we caught tended to be on our lower water beats, which really came into their own this year. The West country had no rain to speak of from April to August , one spate in May when there was a reasonable flow of water in the river up until mid june. Catches were good and the early season run continues to Improve. July and August was the warmest driest summer since 2006 with desperatley low river levels and high water temperatures. In the Autumn things picked up a bit but the substantial rainfall came too late to save a rather dissapointing season.

Our Total Salmon caught this season was 76 the largest being 15lb caught by member Mr John Foster at Woodtown Croy on a red/yellow MJS. Mr Martin Stone catching a 15lb Salmon at Endsleigh Ham on a red GP1/2″ tube. Total sea trout was 75 the largest being 5lb caught by Mr Gerald Spiers at Weir Pool on a size 10 stoats tail .Second largest Sea Trout caught by Member Mrs Pippa Medd was 4lb caught at Inny Croy on a 2 ” Sunray shadow.

March was very dry and warm with little rain, fly life started hatching with good hatches of olives and grannom a few wild trout were caught on a pheasant tail nymph’s.

April saw catches of early Sea trout .The large spring tides and heavy rain brought in our first 2 Salmon , caught by Member Mrs Paula Jones 18lb at Thompsons,10lb at Beech Tree caught on a brown shrimp fly.

May was a good month for Sea trout with 21 caught the biggest 6lb caught by Mr Jon Barnard at Carthamartha on a black/orange tube.

June started off with heavy rain and another week of high coloured water. Member Mr Jeff Wehner caught a 14lb salmon at Inny Croy on a black/yellow 2 inch tube. This was the wettest june on record since 1910.

July was the same as June with heavy constant rain .Member Mr James Medd caught a 7lb Salmon at Inny Croy on a flood flasher, his son Harry Medd caught our first grilse of the season 4lb caught at Inny Junction II on a flood flasher. Member Mrs Melanie Healy caught a 10lb Salmon at Gravel on a black tube. Member Mr Edward Smyth Osbourne caught a 12lb Salmon at Leighwood Croy on a orange/gold tube, his son Hector Smyth Osbourne caught 2 Salmon 9lb at Leighwood Croy, 7lb at Endsleigh Ham.

Mr Rennie Miller caught a 25lb Salmon at Carthamartha Lower Run on a posh tosh 1 inch tube the largest Salmon caught at Endsleigh for many years.Member Mr Brian Peppiatt caught a 9lb Salmon at Endsleigh Ham on a 1 inch waddington black/yellow, His grandson Fergus Bracher caught his first Salmon at Endsleigh a 9lb Salmon caught at Leighgate pool on a 1 inch blue mist. After a 9ft river on the 14th July the highest summer level for many years and the constant high river levels for June and July fishing was very challenging, but July produced good catches with 31 Salmon and 23 Sea trout caught.

August started with our chairman Sir Richard Dearlove catching a 19lb Salmon at Leighwood Croy on a 2 inch yellow/red tube. Member Mr Arthur Manners caught a 7lb Salmon at Lowley Croy, 5lb sea trout at Bush on a 1 inch cascade. Mrs Anne Manners caught a 7lb Salmon at woodtown Croy on a 1 inch cascade .After 4 days of heavy rain the river rose to 8ft 4 inches it took 3 days of river levels dropping before fishing conditions improved. Member Mr Martin Jones caught 2 Salmon a 14lb at Inny Croy on a black/silver waddington, 7lb at Gravel on a black/yellow tube. Mrs Paula Jones caught an 11lb Salmon at Gravel on a kylie 2 inch waddington. After heavy rain and high river levels throughout August fishing conditions were very difficult, but despite weather conditions we caught more Salmon for August than last season with 27 Salmon and 12 sea trout.

September started off fantastic with 15 Salmon caught over one weekend. Members son Alex Medd caught his first 2 Salmon at Endsleigh a 13lb Salmon at Georgy’s Run,6lb Salmon at Inny Junction II both caught on a 2 inch black/yellow tube.Members daughter Emily Medd caught her first Salmon at Endsleigh 5lb at Waterfall on a garry dog tube. Bertram Medd caught 2 Salmon an 8lb at Gravel,5lb at Georgy’s Run caught on a 2 inch black/yellow tube. Harry Medd caught a 6lb Salmon at Gravel on a 1 inch black/yellow tube. Member Mr Nick Medd caught 2 Salmon a 7lb at Lowley run on a Ally Shrimp tube, 6lb Salmon at Inny Junction I on a 1 inch black/gold tube. Member Mr James Medd caught a 5lb Salmon at Inny Junction I on a 1 inch black/yellow tube.Member Mr Jeff Wehner caught a 6lb Salmon at Carthamartha on a 1 inch black/yellow tube .Between the 1st – 11th September Endsleigh caught 31 Salmon. Member Mr Charlie Bracher caught a 8lb Salmon at Leighwood croy on a 1 inch black/yellow tube, His son Fergus Bracher caught his 2nd Salmon at Endsleigh this season an 11lb caught at Endsleigh Ford on a 1 inch Thunder and Lightening tube. Long standing Member Dr Wilfred Medd caught an 8lb Salmon at Carthamartha on a 1 inch red tube. September was our best month this season for fishing conditions and our longest spell of unspoilt fishing with 44 Salmon and 17 Sea trout caught.

October’s weather continued with constant rain at night and heavy showers during the day keeping river levels high and coloured, there were only 3 Salmon caught in October .Mr Garath craze caught a 10lb Salmon at higher Bush on a 2 inch black tube. Mr Alan white caught a 5lb salmon at Carthamartha on a 2 inch black/orange tube. Mr William Trevelyan Thomas caught a 5lb Salmon at Inny Croy on a posh tosh tube fly.

Considering the weather conditions this season with the highest rainfall this summer for 100 years out Total catches of Salmon and Sea Trout were very good with 131 Salmon caught the largest weighing 25lb and 88 Sea trout the largest 6lb. Lets hope next season’s weather is an Improvement on 2012 season.

Our season started with low water levels and the driest March since 1961 with very little rainfall. A few kelts have been seen throughout the beats during late March and early April.

April being a very warm and dry month with temperatures reaching 22 degrees which made river temperatures rise very quickly; encouraging an abundance of fly life to hatch early.

There have been some good catches of trout , Mr james Pearce catching 36 trout of 4oz to 1lb and several grayling from 1lb to 2lb2oz on a black and peacock spider and black gnat .And a Mr mark Stockington catching 23 trout up to 12oz on a butchers wet and large olives .A Mr dean Medley catching 15 trout largest being 1lb2oz caught on a sawyers nymph, olive imergers and dry fly grannon at Dunterue on beat 2 .A Mr philip Norton catching 18 trout up to 1lb on a stone fly nymph and dry fly olives at Carthamartha on beat 1. The Salmon smolts and trout smolts are benefiting from the early fly life .

The smolt trap was once again in place during April and despite the low levels of water many smolts have been seen and recorded by cefas in total 4037 wild salmon smolts and 1046 wild trout smolts and 13 hatchery smolts were caught and released with the majority of the smolts still to come down from the tributaries .

The warm weather continues into May with river levels still dropping, the first sightings of May fly have been seen on the 15th May which hopefully will produce an abundance of may fly and good dry fly fishing .

On the 22nd May our first Salmon was caught by one of our members a Mr Jeff Wehner catching a 8lb Salmon on a 1/2 inch black tube at Thompsons pool on beat 3 .And another member Mr Will Nott catching our first sea trout a 1 1/2 lb on a stoats tail at Inny Junction on beat 2 .

Some Salmon and sea trout have finally made their way up river and have been seen in pools during the last week, but we are still in deperate need of some rain .

End of May and early june good hatches of May fly producing great catches of brown trout up to 2lb,and some good catches of Sea trout caught early evening with Mr Berri Schroder catching a 2lb and a 3lb Sea trout caught at hardstone croy and parsons on a number 10 black stoats tail.And one of our members a Mr Charles Carey catching a 3lb Sea trout at Parsons on a black and yellow stoats tail .

Weather remained warm and dry until the 12th june when the welcoming sight of steady rain raised river levels and brought up some fresh Salmon and sea trout. In June we caught 10 salmon a Mr Martin Stone caught the largest a 13lb salmon at Lowley run on a black stoats tail tube. Mr Clive Lunn a Arundell Arms fisherman caught a 10lb Salmon at Joles Corner on a stoats tail number 8 double . Mr Ben Garnett a Arundell arms fisherman caught a 12lb Salmon at southcombe croy on a orange and black tube 1 inch . Mr Mike symons catching 2 Salmon a 7lb and a 12lb at Harstone on a mjs red and yellow 1 inch tube .

One of our members Mr Martin Jones catching a 6lb Salmon at Hardstone wood on a yellow and black 1 inch tube .Also 5 Sea trout have been caught in June between 2lb and 3lb later on in the evening. With only one or two days of rain in June river levels are still low and a weeks steady rain is still needed.

July has started off well with a few days of rain raising the river levels . One of our members Mrs Sandra Burling caught a 12lb Salmon at Bush pool on a cascade alley 1/2 inch tube. Mr John Foster also a member caught a 8lb Salmon at Lily Pond on a MJS 1 inch tube .

Mr John Mc Quade caught an 8lb Salmon at joles corner on a stoats tail 1/2 inch tube , Mr Alan White caught a 8lb Salmon at hardstone croy on a 1 inch mercers fancy. Another lady Member Mrs Pippa Medd caught the first grilse of the season 6lb caught at beech tree on a 1/2 inch black and yellow tube.

The sea trout fishing in July has been very good with Mr david Pilkington catching 5 sea trout up to 3lb at carthamartha run and adams pool on a bumble single no 10 . One of our members Mr Johnny Trenchard catching 7 sea trout between 1lb and 3lb at Inny Junction and underhill on a stoats tail single no 8 .Mr Fournie caught 7 sea trout between 1lb and 4lb at Bush , gravel and parsons pool on a gold head stonefly .Mr John Dolly caught a sea trout of 5lb at Hardstone croy on a 1 inch black and yellow tube. Mr Gerald Spiers caught 6 sea trout between 1lb and 9lb at underhill, southcombe and beera on a black pennell 1 inch tube . A really good month for sea trout with a total of 37 for july .

With the warm weather raising water temperature,s and low river levels we are in desperate need of some heavy constant rain .

End of August one of our members Mr Martin Jones caught an 8lb Salmon at underhill on a 1 inch black/yellow tube and one of our lady members Mrs Tara Marlow caught a grilse of 5lb at Adams pool on a cascade double no 6. Mr John Mc quade caught a grilse of 4lb at Joles corner on a sunray black. Mr David Chapman caught a 5lb grilse at Gravel on a posh tosh.

Sea trout fishing is still good one of our members Mrs Sandra Burling caught 2 sea trout a 2lb caught at Thompsons on a black tube and a 3lb caught at Endsleigh ford on a cascade alley .Miss Emily Medd caught a 2lb Sea trout at Adams pool on a black and yellow 1 inch tube . Another member Mr Will Nott caught 4 Sea trout between 2lb and 3lb caught at Underhill and Joles Corner on a stoats Tail.Mr dave Chapman caught a 6lb sea trout at Dunterue on a posh tosh.

The Recent rainfall we have had at the start of september has moved the Salmon up river and we have had some good fish caught.

Mr John Foster has caught 4 Salmon in one day a 10lb and a 8lb caught at Bush, A 5lb Salmon caught a Dunterue run, a 4lb Salmon caught a lower Parsons all on a mjs red /yellow tube. Mr John Foster also caught a 9lb Salmon at hardstone on a mjs red /yellow tube . Mr Mike Symons caught a 5lb Salmon at Leighwood pool on a mjs red /yellow tube. Mr Steve Symons caught a 12lb Salmon at Leighwood run on a sms red/gold tube. Mr Alan White caught a 5lb Salmon at Bush pool on a mercers fancy.

September has been an ideal month with plenty of rain freshening up the river and catching many salmon. one of our members Mr Nick Medd catching 3 Salmon a 7lb caught at Gravel pool on a 1 inch cascade tube , a 5lb Salmon caught at Thompsons on a 2inch cascade tube and a 4lb Salmon caught at Lily pond on a 1inch cascade tube , Mr Nick Medd also caught 3 sea trout up to 3lb in weight on a 1 inch cascade tube at Higher Bush . One of our Lady members Mrs Paula Jones caught a 11lb salmon at Carthamartha on a 1inch black and yellow waddington. Another Lady Member Mrs Sandra Burling caught a 8lb salmon at Southcombe on a 1inch cascade alley, also another Lady Member Mrs Fiona Bell caught a Salmon of 6lb at Black rock on a stoats tail no 2 her first Salmon caught at Endsleigh .Mr Simon Bell caught a 4lb Salmon at Dunterue Stage on a no 2 green highlander .Mr John Foster caught 3 Salmon two 5lb and a 4lb Salmon caught at Middle Parsons on a mjs yellow and red . Mr Simon pettit caught a 12lb Salmon at Thompsons on a 1inch balck tube. The river keeper John Dennis caught a 16lb Salmon at Beera on a 3inch waddington black and yellow.

October started with good weather and the river dropping and clearing .A lot of fish were running and many Salmon were caught by our members. Mr John Foster caught 5 Salmon a 12lb and a 5lb Salmon caught at Middle Parsons,a 5lb Salmon caught at Dunterue and a 5lb and 6lb Salmon caught at Leighwood croy all on a MJS red and yellow. Mrs pippa Medd caught a 12lb Salmon at Leighwood Croy on a 2inch black waddington. Mr Nick Medd caught a 5lb Salmon at Hardstone croy on a 2 inch black and yellow tube. Lord Hugh Trenchard caught a 5lb salmon at Black Rock on a 3/0yellow torrish. Lord Blakenham caught 2 Salmon a 4lb and a 5lb at Beech Tree on a yellow and black single.

The last week of the season heavy rain and a rising coloured river made fishing almost impossible. This Season was a difficult season with many months of no rain and low water levels, despite this the wild brown trout were great sport on a dry fly and nymphs and a lot more sea trout were caught early evening and into the night . when the weather changed and we got rain a good number of Salmon run the river with some wonderful days fishing and in all an interesting seaon with us catching 70 Salmon the largest being 16lb and 86 Sea trout with the largest being 8lb 9oz, the largest wild brown trout was 2lb. 82 %of the Salmon were returned and 80% of sea trout were returned.
